Welcome my fellow knit wits

Friday 18th September 2009

I finished making this bonnet. I don't know who it's for yet but with my 2 cousins, co-worker and friend pregnant I'm sure it'll go to one of them.

I made these green booties for a lady at my work. I hope you like them Sonal. They're made of organic bamboo. They are made from the most soft yarn.

I quickly photographed a few of my other knits that I've put aside for the clan Rand. I'll add more comments on each later.

I've started, or should I say I've almost finished stitching up a blouse modelled on the Gibson Girl blouse of the very early 1900's. The fabric I'm using for the trial run was bought from Tessuti's last weekend. It's a very nice fabric to work with.

I bought 2 other fabrics to try this top out. A small check silk + a japanese cotton. I'll upload a photo of the fabric soon.

I came across another fabric shop online -> Fred the Needle who are based in Parramatta. I haven't visited them yet though.

I did visit tessuti's in Chatswood. Oh, I was in fabric heaven. I wish I could have taken all the roles home. The shop on York street is pretty good but the Chatswood shop is somewhat more friendly. I didn't feel I had to be a sewing goddess to be there!

I made a bootie and hat for a collegue at work. Does he look cute! He was a big boy so I dont think I should have knitted a new born size

I knitted this one up using Debbie Bliss Cotton DK. I'm just so happy that a yarn shop has opened up near my work. It makes it just that much easier to increase my stash.

The pattern comes from a book by Claire Montgomery which is titled "Easy baby knits". This book is an absolute delight. I must have at least a dozen books but always gravitate back towards this one for a quick knit gift.

Easy Baby Knits by Claire Montgomerie Hardcover. Ryland, Peters & Small Ltd 2007-03-01. ISBN: 1845973542 / 1-84597-354-2.

I made this using Debbie Bliss wool which is beautifully soft and used a pattern from the Debbie Bliss Essential Baby . I adapted the pattern slightly to include the white crotchet around the edges to stiffen it up and also use the ribbon from Michael and Rach's wedding invite.

I made this baby blanket quilt using mainly left over materials. It's entirely hand made with approximately 5 knots per 10cm squared. This took months of solid hours after work as the binding was also hand turned with approximately 5 stitches per cm! That binding isn't going anywhere. Enjoy Micheal and Rach :)
